Garima Singh

Indian by nationality, passionate about Astronomy and highly motivated to contribute my life for the search of an ExoEarth. My speciality is Instrumentation and so far the focus of my research has been on the software development and implementation of active wavefront control. For my PhD, I've worked on one of the most advanced next generation exoplanet imager known as the Subaru Coronagraphic Extreme Adaptive Optics (SCExAO) instrument. I have developed and expertized a Lyot-based coronagraphic wavefront sensor dedicated to control low-order aberrations for small inner working angle phase mask coronagraphs.

At JPL, my focus is on exploring the innovative coronagraphic techniques, the optimal control of the low-order aberrations, novel approaches of PSF calibration at the inner working angle of a coronagraph using wavefront sensor telemetry and studying the interaction between speckle calibration and low-order control. I am conducting this research to directly image young Jovian-like exoplanets at angular separations < 0.1 mas around nearby M stars that will eventually enable the future space-based coronagraphs to search for terrestrial-like exoplanets around F-G-K type stars.
