Pasadena, CA 91109Alessandro started his research career during his master's degree working on Astroparticle Physics. He developed Monte Carlo codes for the analysis of Extremely High Energy Cosmic Rays for the JEM-EUSO project. His work was carried out during two different internships at KTH (Stockholm, Sweden) and at the Space Department of the Slovak Academy of Science (Kosice, Slovakia). During his PhD, he moved his attention from Astroparticle Physics to Solar Physics. Alessandro developed Python codes for the image processing from the Metis coronagraph on-board Solar Orbiter, and performed the first in-flight validation (with hard radiation environment) of an electro-optical device (the liquid crystal variable retarder in the Metis visible-light channel). He analyzed the images from the Solar Orbiter first perihelion (0.32 AU) and obtained the first scientific results. Part of his research was focused on the study of the solar corona from ground-based observatories. He took part in two different missions in Antarctica (at Concordia Base, Dome-C, ~3300m a.s.l.). He validated a new coronagraphic site and performed the first coronal observation from Antarctica (ESCAPE project).
Alessandro earned his Bachelor Degree in 2015 and Masters in 2018 at the University of Turin in Physics, and his Ph.D. from the National Institute for Astrophysics (INAF) in Astrophysics
