Akatsuki Venus Climate Orbiter

Akatsuki Venus Climate Orbiter Project Logo

Akatsuki (“Dawn”) Venus Climate Orbiter is a mission by the Japanese Aerospace Exploration Agency JAXA. It has been operating from a highly elliptical, equatorial orbit around Venus since 2015 that allows it to image the planet nearly continuously. The camera instruments onboard the orbiter cover a wavelength range from the ultraviolet to the thermal infrared and enable the study of Venus’ atmospheric structure and dynamics within and above Venus’ predominant cloud layer, providing insight into Venus’ current climate.
