Jason-CS / Sentinel-6

Jason-CS / Sentinel-6 Project Logo

The Jason-CS / Sentinel-6 Mission (on the Sentinel-6 Michael Freilich and Sentinel-6 B spacecraft) is an international partnership between NASA, NOAA The European Space Agency (ESA), and EUMETSAT, with technical and science support from CNES. Jason-CS continues the high precision ocean altimetry measurements started by the TOPEX/Poseidon mission and carried on by the Jason-series satellites beyond 2030, using two successive, identical satellites, Sentinel-6 Michael Freilich (launched Nov 21, 2020) and Sentinel-6B . A secondary objective of Jason-CS is to collect high resolution vertical profiles of atmospheric temperature, using the GNSS Radio-Occultation sounding technique, to assess temperature changes in the troposphere and stratosphere and to support Numerical Weather Prediction.
