Eric Fielding

  • A.B. in Earth Sciences from Dartmouth College (1982)
  • Ph.D. in Geological Sciences from Cornell University (1989)

Research Interests
  • Active tectonics, especially in the Alpine-Himalaya-Tibet system, on a variety of time scales ranging from co-seismic and interseismic deformation (using SAR interferometry) to Late Quaternary deformation estimated from geomorphic analysis
  • Fault interaction via the transfer of stresses through the lithosphere and the possible applications for earthquake risk assessment
  • Long-term evolution (Cenozoic) and present lithospheric structure of Tibet and Altiplano-Puna plateaus


NASA-ISRO Synthetic Aperture Radar, or NISAR, is a satellite radar mission run jointly by NASA and the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) that will survey Earth’s changing ecosystems, dynamic surface, and ice masses.

ARIA is a collaborative project between JPL and Caltech to develop data systems and data products based on radar, GPS, and seismic observations for hazard science and response.

UAVSAR, is a reconfigurable, polarimetric L-band synthetic aperture radar (SAR), is specifically designed to acquire airborne repeat track SAR data for differential interferometric measurements.
