Dr. Ji-Won Kim is a climate scientist at NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) in California Institute of Technology (Caltech). He specializes in the El Niño-Southern Oscillation (ENSO) phenomenon, which is the strongest year-to-year climate variability on the planet. Dr. Kim has conducted extensive research on the complex behaviors of ENSO and has uncovered its underlying mechanisms. His ultimate goal is to provide new insights that may challenge conventional consensus and suggest a better theory or physical mechanism for ENSO that will improve its predictability and help prepare for its global impacts on Earth’s climate.
